In a significant festive season gesture, the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has extended generosity to his constituents by donating a substantial sum of N50 million alongside thousands of bags of food items to residents across Ekiti State.
Massive Distribution Across All Wards
The Federal Lawmaker, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, ensured the largesse reached every corner of the state. The cash donation of N50 million was systematically shared across the 177 wards in Ekiti's 16 Local Government Areas. According to a statement from his Senior Legislative Assistant, Gbenga Banji, Senator Bamidele detailed that each of the 177 wards received N250,000, while each Local Government Area council got an additional N200,000 to facilitate widespread benefit.
Food Items to Combat Hardship
Beyond the cash, the Senator provided a massive consignment of food palliatives to help residents celebrate Christmas and the New Year. A total of 8,730 bags comprising 5,380 bags of rice and 3,350 bags of beans were distributed. He emphasized that no ward was excluded from this distribution, which was strictly supervised to prevent diversion and ensure the gifts reached the intended beneficiaries.
Furthermore, the donation included other essential consumables to complement the staples. Residents also received 5,000 bags of salt and 50,000 units of 2-kilogram garri packs. Senator Bamidele stressed that the distribution, which began on Monday, was carried out without consideration for political party affiliations.
Call for Moderation and Security Vigilance
While congratulating the people of Ekiti on the Christmas and New Year festivities, the Senate Leader offered advice for a safe celebration. Speaking in Ado Ekiti, he urged residents to celebrate with moderation and remain highly security-conscious to avoid any tragic incidents that could mar the joyous period.
"Let me congratulate the residents of Ekiti State on the occasion of Christmas and New Year’s festivities. I wish them God’s protection at this critical time," Bamidele said. "But as they celebrate, let them do everything with moderation. They should know there is life after these festivities. They should also be vigilant due to the pervasive insecurity in the land."
He expressed hope that the nation would overcome its security challenges, noting that the federal government is addressing the situation. The Senator also called on the people to support the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji through their prayers, linking such support to the eventual delivery of democratic dividends for all.
