Shettima Lauds Soludo's Nation-Building Efforts as Second Term Commences in Anambra
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, delivered a heartfelt commendation to Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, during the inauguration ceremony for his second term in office on Tuesday in Awka. Shettima praised Soludo as a distinguished public intellectual whose ideas and interventions have significantly enriched Nigeria's political and economic discourse, fostering national unity and collaboration across political divides.
Recognition of Leadership and Competence
Shettima described Soludo as "a man of ideas and honour" who assumed leadership at a time of increasing political division, yet chose a path of constructive engagement. He emphasized that the people of Anambra, by re-electing Soludo, had renewed "a covenant with competence and consolidation," reflecting their trust in his governance. The Vice President noted that Soludo's insights have benefited President Tinubu's policies through candid and patriotic counsel, both in public forums and private discussions.
Unifying Leadership Style
Highlighting Soludo's leadership qualities, Shettima stated that the governor exemplifies a style capable of bridging divisions without resorting to hostility. "Professor Soludo reminds us that leadership can unify without shouting, persuade without humiliating, and stand firm without surrendering its soul," he remarked. This approach, according to Shettima, has helped sustain a cordial relationship between Anambra State and the Federal Government, providing stability for reforms and governance initiatives.
Contributions to Public Discourse
Shettima observed that Soludo's frequent interventions on economic and political matters have become a defining feature of Nigeria's public discourse. "Whether on the economy or on politics, his commentaries have become such permanent tenants in the media space that once the Professor clears his throat, half the country reaches for a pen and the other half braces for impact," he said. This underscores Soludo's influence as a thought leader who elevates national conversations beyond partisan lines.
Teamwork and Governance
The Vice President also acknowledged the re-election of Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim alongside Soludo, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in effective governance. "Leadership is not only about the brilliance of the man at the top, but also about the steadiness, loyalty and discipline of those who help translate vision into order, and order into progress," Shettima added. He expressed confidence that Soludo's second term would focus on consolidating gains from his first tenure and building on foundations in sectors like health, education, and agriculture.
Soludo's Vision and Gratitude
In his inaugural address, Governor Soludo pledged to deepen reforms and accelerate development across critical sectors of Anambra's economy. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming mandate, with 73% of votes in his favor, calling it an affirmation of love and partnership. Soludo outlined an ambitious vision for the state, aiming to transform Anambra into "an African Dubai, Taiwan and Silicon Valley by 2030." He also thanked President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, and other supporters for their collaboration.

The ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including:
- Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan
- Former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku
