VP Shettima Retained as Tinubu's Running Mate for 2027 Election
Shettima Retained as Tinubu's Running Mate for 2027

Vice President Kashim Shettima has been officially retained as President Bola Tinubu's running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending speculation about a possible change. The nomination forms submitted to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee confirmed the ticket, solidifying a partnership that has drawn praise for its loyalty and mutual respect.

2027 Ticket Confirmed

President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima will seek a second term together, a decision that surprised few close observers. Since taking office, Shettima has demonstrated unwavering support for Tinubu, carrying out assignments without seeking personal attention. According to Mahmud Muhammad, Shettima's personal assistant, the President values loyalty and hard work, and was never swayed by rumors or pressure from political detractors.

Muhammad noted that the relationship between Tinubu and Shettima is unique in Nigeria's democratic history since 1999, characterized by trust and understanding. Despite this, some individuals have attempted to create division between the two leaders.

Poison Allegations Revealed

During the public presentation of former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon's autobiography, Vice President Shettima revealed a shocking incident. According to him, people from his home state of Borno warned President Tinubu not to wear clothes given by Shettima, alleging that the Vice President intended to poison him. Shettima expressed pain over the betrayal, noting that instead of supporting him as the highest-ranking official from Borno, some spread lies to destroy him politically.

President Tinubu, however, was not deceived. He continued to work closely with Shettima, and the same Vice President they sought to push aside now stands beside him for the 2027 race. Muhammad emphasized that lies travel fast, but truth eventually prevails.

Focus on Governance, Not 2031

With the 2027 ticket settled, some political circles have shifted attention to the succession in 2031. Muhammad dismissed this as premature, stating that Shettima has never publicly engaged in 2031 politics. His focus remains on supporting Tinubu and ensuring the administration's success. As the saying goes, one crosses the bridge when one gets there. Leadership, Muhammad added, is ultimately in God's hands.

As 2027 approaches, the Tinubu-Shettima ticket is expected to present its case to Nigerians again. Having defied odds in 2023, they aim to renew the mandate through strong governance and partnership. For now, the priority is delivering on promises, not future ambitions.
