Governor Soludo Announces Support for President Tinubu's 2027 Re-election Bid
Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has publicly declared his intention to work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The governor made this significant announcement during a television interview in Awka on Thursday night, March 19, 2026, emphasizing his strong personal relationship with the president.
Unapologetic Support for Tinubu's Second Term
Governor Soludo described President Tinubu as both a friend and a great ally, stating unequivocally that he wants the president to win his second term. "Tinubu is my friend, and I want him to win his second term. I'm unapologetic about that," Soludo declared during the interview. The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor emphasized that he has no apology to offer anyone for his decision to support Tinubu's re-election campaign.
The governor acknowledged that while it would be a great honor for a Southeasterner to emerge as president, he believes Tinubu should complete his second term in office. This position represents a significant political alignment between the All Progressives Grand Alliance governor and the All Progressives Congress president.
APGA's Strategic Decision Not to Field Presidential Candidate
In a major political development, Governor Soludo disclosed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance will not field a candidate to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The governor explained that this decision should not be interpreted as anti-party activity but rather as strategic collaboration in the interest of governance and national development.
"APGA's main focus remains strengthening its influence at the state and regional levels while backing a presidential candidate it believes can deliver at the national level," Soludo stated. He emphasized that the working relationship between his administration and the federal government has been substantial and productive.
Advice to Other Presidential Aspirants
Governor Soludo took the opportunity to advise other presidential aspirants to reconsider their bids ahead of the 2027 election. This counsel comes amid growing political activities and preparations for the next presidential contest, suggesting that Soludo believes Tinubu's re-election is both likely and desirable for the country's stability and progress.
Growing Support for Tinubu's Re-election
Soludo's endorsement adds to a growing list of political figures supporting President Tinubu's re-election bid. Recall that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has also endorsed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, despite ongoing local government disputes in his state. Adeleke's growing support for Tinubu has been demonstrated through significant participation in regional activities, and he has reassured the president of his unwavering support amidst political tensions in the southwest region.
Additionally, Senator Yari, through his support group, has vowed to mobilize support for President Tinubu's re-election ahead of the 2027 elections. The Renewed Hope Network reportedly received endorsement from 1,500 APC support groups for grassroots mobilization efforts. The group has initiated Polling Unit Canvassers to bolster grassroots efforts before the January 2027 presidential election.
These developments indicate a consolidation of support for President Tinubu's re-election bid across different political parties and regions, with Governor Soludo's endorsement representing a particularly significant cross-party alignment that could influence political dynamics in the Southeast region.
