Muslim leaders across Nigeria's Southwest region have declared their firm support for President Bola Tinubu's administration, praising his administration's courage in addressing the country's longstanding social and economic challenges.
Unwavering Support Amid Economic Challenges
The commitment was made last Thursday in Osogbo by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), during a press conference announcing the organization's upcoming General Assembly. The assembly is scheduled for this Sunday at the Bola Babalakin Hall in Gbongan, Osun State.
MUSWEN leadership expressed strong disagreement with the recent designation of Nigeria as a 'Country of Particular Concern,' describing the label as unfortunate and misplaced, especially as the nation works to rebuild its international credibility.
Addressing Religious Tension Claims
The organization firmly rejected claims of religious war or Christian genocide in Nigeria, emphasizing that both Christians and Muslims have equally suffered from terrorist attacks and bandit violence that has plagued the country over the past decade.
"We thank God that many better known Christian leaders with members scattered in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria have come out to strongly debunk this claim of genocide as a lie from the pit of hell," stated Oladejo.
He added, "Whatever might be the motive of President Donald Trump and his unpatriotic Nigerian cohorts who go to feed him with lies, we know only Allah is great and we stand with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in every step Almighty Allah guides him to take."
Major Summit and Economic Empowerment Plans
The MUSWEN president revealed that President Tinubu will serve as Father of the Day at the upcoming summit, while Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke will act as Chief Host. Other Southwest governors will participate as co-hosts.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, who serves as President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), will be the Special Guest of Honour.
The event, themed 'Nigeria's Economy: Any Hope for the Masses,' will feature Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule as keynote speaker.
Oladejo announced ambitious plans to raise two billion naira for economic empowerment programs targeting Muslims in the Southwest region. The funds will support various initiatives including:
- Scholarships and bursary awards for students
- Specialized training in artificial intelligence, robotics, and data informatics to enhance youth employability
- Construction of a modern headquarters secretariat at Agodi, GRA, Ibadan
- Healthcare facilities with state-of-the-art medical diagnostics
"MUSWEN plans to provide health care facilities with state-of-the-art medical diagnostics and other infrastructures for the benefit of the Muslim Ummah across Southwest, as contained in MUSWEN strategic plan 2019-2030," Oladejo confirmed.
The comprehensive empowerment program represents a significant investment in the Muslim community's development and aligns with the organization's long-term strategic vision for regional improvement.
