President Tinubu Pledges to Defeat Terrorism at Airport Commissioning
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided a strong assurance to Nigerians, stating that the nation will triumph over its current security challenges. He emphasized that Nigeria is resolutely on a path toward renewed greatness and prosperity. The President made these remarks on Saturday during the official commissioning ceremony of the Gateway International Cargo Airport in Ogun State, which also included the unveiling of two newly acquired aircraft.
Investments Centered on People and Progress
Tinubu highlighted that his administration's investments are fundamentally focused on the welfare of the people, reflecting a deep-seated confidence in the country's future trajectory. "I assure you that we will continue to make progress. Nigeria is determined to be great, and we are firmly on the path to achieving that greatness once again," he declared. He commended various individuals and institutions for their contributions to national development, noting that their efforts would have a lasting and positive impact on the nation.
The President acknowledged that while macroeconomic reforms might present challenges, they are already yielding tangible progress for the country. "While macroeconomic reforms may be challenging, they are already delivering progress for our country," Tinubu added, underscoring the administration's commitment to economic stability.
Integrated Development and Security Focus
Tinubu also revealed that several other projects were virtually commissioned alongside the airport, describing the facility as an integral component of a broader, comprehensive development strategy. "This airport project is integrated with investments in gas and energy, alongside other initiatives designed to impact every level of society," he explained.
He expressed particular satisfaction with the administration's focus on key areas such as mobility, security, and agriculture. The introduction of modern transportation solutions signifies a strategic shift toward innovation and enhanced daily life for citizens. Strengthening security infrastructure reinforces the government's unwavering resolve to protect lives and property across the nation. "We will overcome violence and terrorism," Tinubu asserted, reaffirming his commitment to national security.
Governor Abiodun Praises Economic Reforms
Speaking at the event, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, praised President Tinubu's economic reforms, highlighting efforts to expand revenue through improved tax administration, digitalization, and institutional strengthening. These measures are effectively addressing longstanding structural challenges within the economy.
He noted that the administration has demonstrated remarkable courage in tackling fiscal leakages, promoting local production, and improving the ease of doing business through regulatory reforms. "This renewed focus on infrastructure financing, public-private partnerships, and investment in agriculture, power, and transportation is laying the foundation for long-term prosperity," Abiodun stated.
Governor Abiodun added that Ogun State remains one of Nigeria's fastest-growing economies, with significant achievements over the past seven years. "Over the past seven years, our internally generated revenue has grown from ₦40 billion to over ₦250 billion annually, while our GDP has increased from ₦4 trillion to ₦17 trillion," he detailed, showcasing the state's economic resilience and growth.
