Presidential Aide Provides Insight into Tinubu's Absence at Lagos Project Unveiling
Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, has offered a detailed explanation for President Bola Tinubu's inability to attend a scheduled project inauguration in Lagos, attributing it to pressing national security concerns. During an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Dare emphasized that the President prioritized ongoing security briefings over the event, underscoring the critical nature of state matters.
Security Developments Take Precedence
Dare disclosed that President Tinubu has been deeply engaged with security agencies, monitoring developments and receiving constant briefs. He stated, "Yes, the president is in Lagos, and I'm sure beyond the pictures, you know that the president has been busy with state matters." The aide highlighted recent security incidents, noting, "You will know the last 10 days, right from the attack in Jos, we've seen the developments." He further elaborated on the widespread nature of these concerns, citing insecurities in multiple states such as Jos, Kaduna, and Niger, which he described as "unpleasant."
Prioritization of National Duties
According to Dare, the President has been actively involved in consultations and engagements to address the security situation. He explained, "The president has decided to make sure that he's giving constant briefs, working the phones, and also meeting and engaging." This focus on urgent decision-making was stressed, with Dare adding, "Because decisions have to be taken in a timely fashion." The aide reiterated that when it comes to state matters, especially security, the President must prioritize accordingly, ensuring that national stability remains at the forefront of his agenda.
Representation at the Event
In President Tinubu's absence, Senate President Godswill Akpabio represented him at the inauguration of the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge project, commissioning it on his behalf. This event was part of a series of activities planned during the President's visit to Lagos, where he was expected to inaugurate several projects executed by the state government. The representation underscores the administration's commitment to both local development and national security responsibilities.
