Tinubu Urges Monarchs to Promote Unity and Emulate Falae's Leadership Example

President Bola Tinubu has issued a compelling call to traditional rulers across Nigeria, urging them to enhance their roles in fostering unity, peace, and national cohesion. He emphasized that they should draw inspiration from the exemplary leadership of elder statesman and monarch, Oba Olu Falae. This appeal was made during the public presentation of Falae's autobiography, titled "The Triumph of Grace," held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Victoria Island, Lagos, yesterday.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, President Tinubu described the event as a celebration of a lifetime of service characterized by discipline, resilience, and unwavering dedication to national development. He highlighted that the autobiography chronicles the enduring contributions of a statesman whose career has spanned public administration, economic management, and traditional leadership, offering valuable insights into Nigeria's governance history.

Falae's Legacy in Public Service and Traditional Leadership

According to President Tinubu, Falae's tenure in key national positions, including as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Minister of Finance, reflected intellectual depth and a strong commitment to responsible governance. He noted that Falae's stewardship demonstrated sound judgment and policy insight, which helped guide the country through challenging economic periods, making his legacy a benchmark for effective leadership.

Tinubu further commended Falae's role as a traditional ruler, describing him as a vital bridge between Nigeria's rich cultural heritage and contemporary governance structures. He emphasized that royal fathers have a critical responsibility to encourage dialogue, promote peaceful coexistence, and actively discourage violence within their communities, thereby contributing to national stability and progress.

Dignitaries Praise Falae's Contributions to Nigeria

Meanwhile, former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, who reviewed the book, stated that the autobiography represents an important contribution to Nigeria's historical and policy literature. He noted that the 501-page work is "not merely a memoir, but a window that provides insight into governance challenges and development planning debates," offering lessons for current and future leaders.

Chairman of the occasion and former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retired), represented by former SGF Yayale Ahmed, highlighted patriotism, courage, and dedication to national development as defining features of Falae's legacy. Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, also praised Falae's contributions, asserting that Nigeria's modern history cannot be fully recounted without reference to his significant role in public life.

Former presidential candidate, Babagana Kingibe, described Falae as a leader whose capacity for national leadership remained widely acknowledged, underscoring his influence across political and traditional spheres. Dignitaries at the event included political leaders, traditional rulers, and representatives of several state governments, such as PDP chieftain Bode George, former Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, and the Deji of Akure, all of whom hailed Falae's enduring impact on the nation.
