Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has fired back at Afrobeats superstar David “Davido” Adeleke, suggesting that the singer’s uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, will lose the upcoming August 15 governorship election and should be prepared for a career change as a dancer in Davido’s band.
The exchange began when Davido, at a press conference on Wednesday, August 5, voiced concerns about alleged plans by an unnamed Imo State politician to interfere in the Osun State governorship election. Although he did not name anyone, the singer urged the politician to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to freely choose their preferred candidate.
Uzodimma’s Response
In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Governor Uzodimma dismissed Davido’s appeal, redirecting the singer’s attention to the electorate of Osun State.
“Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun appear ready to cast their votes massively in favour of the APC candidate,” the statement read.
A Dire Prediction
The statement went further, predicting a decisive defeat for Governor Adeleke. “The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.”
“The signals emerging from across Osun State are clear. There is a growing indication that a significant number of voters have rejected the current administration and are prepared to embrace a new direction,” the statement added.
A Dancer in the Making?
In a pointed jab, the statement suggested Davido should begin preparing to sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band. “Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band, because judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election.”
