Governor Yusuf Confronts Kwankwaso, Declares Kano as APC Territory

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has issued a bold challenge to the opposition, firmly stating that the Kwankwasiyya Movement within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) will not come close to securing power in the state. This declaration comes amid escalating political tensions following his recent realignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yusuf Dismisses Opposition Credibility

In a strong rebuttal to the viral Hausa phrase "Abba Falle daya ce", which suggests he will only serve one term, Governor Yusuf asserted that both ADC and NNPP lack the dexterity and credibility to win elections in Kano. He made these remarks while addressing party supporters at the Government House upon his return from the APC national congress in Abuja, where he received a rousing reception from thousands of loyalists and residents.

The governor emphasized that Kano, under his leadership, firmly belongs to the APC and will deliver victories across all electoral levels, including support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. This stance marks a significant shift from his previous affiliation with the Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by his erstwhile political godfather, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Political Realignments and Accusations

Governor Yusuf's move to the APC has sparked a series of attacks from the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which accuses him of betraying the trust placed in him by the NNPP. Interestingly, Kwankwaso himself has also left the NNPP for the ADC, a decision that analysts have described as a double standard. Despite this, both ADC and NNPP are now consolidating efforts under the Kwankwasiyya banner to challenge the ruling APC in Kano.

Yusuf, however, appears undeterred, taking the fight directly to the movement by questioning its electoral viability. He appealed to residents and supporters to ensure their voter registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), highlighting it as a crucial step to secure APC's victory in upcoming elections.

APC's United Front in Kano

Echoing the governor's confidence, State Chairman of the APC, Umar Haruna Doguwa, explained that the party in Kano remains stronger and more united than ever, poised to consolidate its victories. This unity is seen as a key factor in maintaining APC's dominance in the state's political landscape.

The ongoing political drama underscores the intense rivalries and strategic maneuvers ahead of the 2027 elections, with Kano emerging as a critical battleground. As Governor Yusuf and the Kwankwasiyya Movement lock horns, the outcome could significantly influence Nigeria's broader political dynamics.
