FCTA Implements Strict Attendance Registers Following Court-Ordered Strike Suspension

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken decisive steps to restore administrative order by mandating the immediate implementation of staff attendance registers across all its departments and agencies. This directive comes in the wake of a recent court ruling that suspended the ongoing industrial action by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC).

Court Order Triggers Immediate Action

In a circular dated Tuesday, January 27, the Acting Head of the Civil Service of the Federal Capital Territory, Nancy Sabanti Nathan, issued clear instructions to all Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments. The directive emphasizes the strict maintenance of attendance registers to monitor staff presence and ensure compliance with the court's decision.

Justice E. D. Subilim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria had ordered the immediate suspension of the JUAC strike, prompting the FCTA to act swiftly. Nathan stressed that compliance with this court order is not optional but mandatory for all staff members.

Resumption of Duties and Operational Continuity

All employees across the FCTA's secretariats, departments, and agencies are required to resume work without any delay. This move is crucial to maintaining the continuity of government operations and services in the Federal Capital Territory.

The circular, addressed to Secretaries of Mandate Secretariats, Coordinators of the area councils, and Permanent Secretaries, underscores the administration's commitment to restoring normalcy. Nathan highlighted that the directive on resumption of duty aligns with the FCTA Management's ongoing dedication to the welfare of its workforce.

Ensuring Full Compliance and Communication

Senior officials have been instructed to ensure that the contents of the circular are adequately communicated to all staff members under their supervision. This step is vital to guarantee full and immediate adherence to the court's decision and the new attendance policies.

The implementation of attendance registers is part of broader efforts by the FCTA to reinforce administrative discipline and efficiency within its bureaucracy. Following the industrial action, these measures aim to prevent future disruptions and uphold the rule of law.

By enforcing these protocols, the FCTA demonstrates its resolve to maintain operational integrity while addressing the concerns that led to the strike. The administration continues to balance strict compliance with court orders and its commitment to employee welfare, ensuring a stable and productive work environment in Abuja.
