Osun Governor Declares 24-Hour Curfew in Igbajo After Unrest Linked to Prince's Death
24-Hour Curfew Imposed on Igbajo, Osun State

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has taken decisive action by imposing a strict 24-hour curfew on the town of Igbajo in Boluwaduro Local Government Area. This emergency measure follows a significant breakdown of law and order that began on the night of Sunday, December 1, 2025, and spilled into the early hours of Monday.

Curfew Enacted to Quell Community Tensions

The state government, through a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, confirmed that the curfew took immediate effect. It will remain in force until peace and normalcy are fully restored in the community. Intelligence reports from the Office of the Special Adviser on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo, detailed the severity of the unrest, prompting the governor's swift intervention.

Authorities have directly linked the disturbance to underlying tensions within Igbajo following the recent passing of a prominent community figure. Prince Adegboyega Famodun died on Saturday, November 23, 2025, after a brief illness. The period following his death has been marked by unease, which ultimately escalated into the violent clashes that necessitated the lockdown.

Governor Adeleke's Stern Warning and Security Mobilization

Governor Adeleke, who serves as the state's Chief Security Officer, expressed deep shock at the events. He issued a firm condemnation of the civil disobedience, stressing that his administration has zero tolerance for any action capable of disrupting the hard-earned peace in Osun State.

"My administration will not fold its arms to allow the breach of law and order anywhere in the state," the governor declared. He warned all residents of Igbajo, both natives and non-natives, to adhere strictly to the curfew and maintain order. The governor emphasized that anyone found engaging in acts that could worsen the crisis would face the full wrath of the law.

Security Forces Placed on Maximum Alert

To enforce the curfew and stabilize the situation, Governor Adeleke has directed all security agencies to take charge of Igbajo. A joint force comprising personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been mobilized.

The governor charged them to maintain round-the-clock surveillance and red alert status within the community. This robust deployment aims to prevent any further escalation of violence, protect lives and property, and create an environment conducive to the return of lasting peace and harmonious coexistence.

The state government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding peace across Osun. Officials are appealing to the residents of Igbajo to cooperate fully with security personnel, stay indoors during the curfew, and avoid any action that could hinder the restoration of calm.
