Governor Abiodun Distributes 40 SUVs to Ogun Monarchs, Emphasizes Need for Investor-Friendly Communities
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has issued a strong appeal to traditional rulers across the state, urging them to cultivate a conducive and investor-friendly environment within their domains. He warned that any hostility toward investors could severely undermine the state's economic growth and development prospects.
Appeal Made During Statutory Meeting with Traditional Rulers
The governor delivered this message on Thursday while presenting 40 SUVs to traditional rulers during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas. The event was held at the Oba's Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marking a significant gathering to address key state issues.
Expressing deep concern over reports of uncooperative attitudes from some communities, particularly in areas like Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ijebu North, Abiodun condemned what he described as hostility toward investors. These investors are willing to commit billions of dollars to the state's economy, which he stressed is critical for job creation, infrastructure development, and overall socio-economic advancement.
"We have received disturbing reports about the conduct of some communities during recent investor engagements. This is unacceptable," the governor stated emphatically. "These investors are bringing in significant capital that will transform our economy, create jobs for our people, and improve livelihoods. They must be welcomed and supported."
Traditional Rulers Called to Action for Peace and Development
Abiodun urged the traditional rulers, whom he addressed as Kabiyesis, to take full responsibility for ensuring peace and cooperation within their domains. He emphasized their pivotal role in facilitating development and warned that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of hostility and distrust.
"Kabiyesis, I urge you to work closely with your people to create an enabling environment for investors. Development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of hostility and distrust. We must position Ogun State as a preferred investment destination," he said.
The governor reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to protecting investments, making it clear that actions capable of discouraging investors would not be tolerated. He highlighted that such investments are essential for driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
Addressing Security and Land Management Concerns
Beyond investment issues, Abiodun called for heightened vigilance among residents and traditional institutions in response to rising insecurity in parts of the country. He urged prompt reporting of suspicious activities to security agencies to help maintain safety.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address national security challenges, Abiodun stressed that local vigilance remains crucial to sustaining Ogun State's relative peace. He also cautioned traditional rulers against indiscriminate land allocation and involvement in land-related disputes, describing land as a critical economic asset that must be managed with integrity.
"Our land is our oil. It must not be allocated carelessly. We must ensure that land matters are handled transparently and responsibly to attract and retain genuine investors," he added.
Furthermore, the governor issued a warning to landlords against renting properties to individuals involved in criminal activities. He stated that any building found to be used for unlawful purposes would be subject to demolition, underscoring the administration's zero-tolerance policy toward crime.
Government and Traditional Institutions Strengthen Collaboration
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat, noted that the meeting was the first of its kind in 2026. It was convened to address key issues of security and development while strengthening collaboration between the government and traditional institutions.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, commended Governor Abiodun's developmental strides. He reiterated the council's full support for policies aimed at promoting economic growth and stability in the state.
A highlight of the meeting was the formal presentation of the 40 SUVs to the traditional rulers. This initiative is designed to enhance their administrative capabilities and improve community engagement, supporting their roles as key leaders in local governance and development efforts.
