The Adamawa State Government has given its official nod to a series of major capital projects with a combined value exceeding twelve billion naira. The approvals were granted during the state's 25th Executive Council meeting for the year, which was presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Major Bridge and Road Projects Get Green Light
In a significant move to boost infrastructure and connectivity, the council approved the construction of two crucial bridges along the Gombi-Ngada road. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Iliya James, disclosed that the contracts for these bridges are valued at N5.9 billion. He emphasized that these structures are vital for improving access for communities that depend on this route for daily economic activities and movement.
Further urban development projects in the state capital, Yola, were also sanctioned. The council approved funds for the construction and completion of the one-kilometre Sarki Kano Aliyu Road. Additionally, it endorsed the extension of the 2.40-kilometre Weekly Scope Road, which includes 700 metres of stormwater drainage. The combined value for these two road projects in Yola is N3.4 billion, aimed at easing traffic and improving mobility within the city.
Enhancing Security for New Traditional Institutions
In a separate but equally important approval, the Executive Council sanctioned the construction of perimeter fences and gatehouses for the six newly created chiefdoms and emirates in the state. This security infrastructure project, awarded to six different contractors, will cost a total of N3.032 billion.
Commissioner James explained that these facilities are designed to support the administrative functions of the new traditional institutions and, more importantly, to strengthen their security. This move underscores the government's commitment to supporting the traditional framework while ensuring the safety of these communities.
A Continued Push for Statewide Development
Speaking after the council session, Commissioner Iliya James reiterated the state government's unwavering commitment to accelerating development across all communities. He stated that the approvals reflect Governor Fintiri's administration's dedication to sustained investment in public infrastructure as a cornerstone for growth and improved living standards.
This latest batch of project approvals follows a recent pattern of significant capital expenditure by the Adamawa State Government. Earlier, the Executive Council had approved N11.4 billion for projects in the education, health, water, and power sectors. A major component of that earlier approval was N7.7 billion earmarked for the construction of a new permanent National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Malkohi, Yola South Local Government Area.
The consistent rollout of these high-value projects signals a proactive approach by the state government to address infrastructural deficits and stimulate economic activity across Adamawa State.
