Edo Governor Removes CPS Fred Itua, Names New Aide

In a significant administrative reshuffle, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has removed Mr. Fred Itua from his position as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS). The decision was officially announced on the night of Thursday, December 4, 2025.

New Appointment Takes Immediate Effect

Governor Okpebholo has approved the appointment of Dr. Akhere Patrick Ebojele as the new Chief Press Secretary. The announcement was made public in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.

The statement clarified that the outgoing CPS, Fred Itua, is to hand over his duties and will subsequently await a new reassignment. The government's communication indicated that this new posting for Itua will be communicated in due course.

Profile of the New Chief Press Secretary

Dr. Akhere Patrick Ebojele is described as a seasoned journalist, researcher, public administrator, and lecturer. He brings an extensive professional background in media, public affairs, and academia to the role.

His media career includes notable roles as the Edo/Delta Correspondent for Channels Television, alongside correspondent positions at several reputable national newspapers such as the New Nigerian Newspaper, Champion Newspaper, and Comet Newspapers.

The government's statement emphasized that Ebojele's appointment reflects the administration's commitment to strengthening communication channels with the people of Edo State. The goal is to ensure greater clarity, transparency, and effective dissemination of government policies and activities.

Governor's Parallel Focus on Inclusive Governance

Separately, Governor Okpebholo has underscored his administration's focus on inclusive governance. As part of activities marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the governor empowered 250 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with a grant of N200,000 each.

The grants were distributed under the federal government's Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). Speaking at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo stressed that PWDs must never face discrimination and announced the donation of a bus to the community to improve mobility and access.

In a related political declaration, Governor Okpebholo recently expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's popularity in Edo State. He stated his readiness to resign if President Tinubu fails to win the state in the 2027 presidential election, claiming the All Progressives Congress (APC) now dominates the Edo political landscape.

The removal of the CPS and the subsequent appointment mark a strategic move in Governor Okpebholo's efforts to shape his administration's communication strategy and overall governance approach.
