The Ekiti State Government has given the green light for a massive N7.72 billion investment aimed at reconstructing critical road networks that connect to the new flyover bridge in Ado-Ekiti. This decision was reached during the state's 12th executive council meeting, which was held virtually.
Major Boost for Ado-Ekiti Road Infrastructure
In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Information, Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun, the government explained that the ambitious road project is designed to ensure a free flow of traffic and significantly enhance socio-economic activities. The focus is on the area surrounding the flyover at the heart of the state capital, including the entire Old Garage zone.
The specific roads slated for comprehensive rehabilitation in this corridor are:
- Mathew Road to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ijigbo through Ojido to Odo Ado
- Mugbagba Roads
- Ojumose/Post Office via Ewi’s Palace Road
- Atikankan to Baptist Church Road
The scope of the contract is extensive and will involve site clearing, earthworks, construction of concrete drains, pavement improvement, and a final asphalt overlay. The Ekiti State Executive Council has entrusted this crucial project to Messrs Step Development Limited, the same contractor currently handling the flyover project. The company was selected for having demonstrated the requisite technical capacity and financial strength to deliver a seamless and integrated construction outcome for the entire corridor.
Expanding Electricity Access Across the State
In a parallel move to boost development, the state council also approved the sum of N1.06 billion for the extension of electricity and the installation of transformers to numerous underserved communities across Ekiti.

Aligning Development with Global Goals
Olatunbosun emphasized that this approval is a key part of the Oyebanji administration's continuous drive to improve access to electricity throughout the state. These interventions are strategically aimed at tackling the challenges of electric power supply in underserved and unserved communities. The ultimate goal is to enhance economic productivity and public safety, an initiative that is in clear alignment with the applicable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These twin approvals for major road construction and widespread electricity extension represent a significant step by the Ekiti State Government to accelerate infrastructure development, directly impacting the lives of its citizens and fostering a more robust economic environment.
