Political landscape in Taraba State is set for a major shakeup as Governor Agbu Kefas prepares to cross from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The highly anticipated defection is scheduled for November 19, 2025, according to reliable sources.
The Defection Plan Finalized
Credible information from the APC National Working Committee confirms that all arrangements have been concluded for Governor Kefas' move to the ruling party. Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC national chairman, is expected to personally lead the team that will receive the Taraba governor during a major rally in Jalingo.
The defection plans were reportedly discussed during the APC's recent leadership meeting held on Wednesday at the party's national secretariat in Abuja. An insider close to the developments stated, "Everything is already set for the Taraba governor's arrival into the APC fold."
Governor's Cryptic Statement
Governor Kefas had earlier dropped strong hints about his political movement while addressing both APC and PDP stakeholders at the Banquet Hall of TY Danjuma House in Jalingo. His statement finally confirmed the widespread speculation about his planned defection.
"Yes! A rumour is indeed circulating, and I'm also hearing that rumour," the governor told the gathering. "Sometimes, when a rumour keeps moving like that, it makes somebody think that it is something good. I am also hearing that rumour, and I am working on it to see that it becomes a reality. So, by the grace of God, in a few days to come after next week, you will hear from me."
APC Stakeholders Show Support
The planned defection has already received massive support from APC leaders and stakeholders in Taraba State. During a recent meeting held at the Jalingo residence of Danladi Baido, a broad coalition of APC leaders expressed their backing for Governor Kefas' move.
The gathering included representatives from the party chairman's office, APC Youth Forum, Concerned Citizens, APC Like Minds, and party elders from across the state's 16 local councils and two development zones. Participants described the governor's planned defection as "timely" and "strategic," noting that it would enhance Taraba's development through increased federal presence and improved infrastructure.
Adamawa Governor Next in Line
In a related development, APC sources have revealed that the party is in advanced talks with Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is also set to dump the PDP. "The defection of Governor Fintiri is already a settled matter. After Taraba, Adamawa is next," a source confirmed.
Currently, the APC controls Borno, Gombe, and Yobe States in the Northeast region, while the PDP holds Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. The potential defection of both governors would significantly alter the political balance in the region.
