Governor Yusuf Accuses Former Deputy of Plotting to Seize His Position

Kano State Governor Yusuf Abba Kabir Yusuf has publicly accused his former deputy, Aminu Abdussalam, of orchestrating a plot to remove him from office and usurp his position. The governor made these serious allegations during a meeting with a group of supporters in Kano, where he expressed his dismay over the political developments.

Resignation Letter and Alleged Wrongdoing

Governor Yusuf stated that he has not even seen Abdussalam's resignation letter, questioning its relevance to his administration. "Today, the deputy governor who came with us on the same ticket is no longer with us... I have not even seen his resignation letter, what concerns me with it?" Yusuf said. He insisted that there has been no wrongdoing from his administration, suggesting that the resignation was motivated by ulterior motives.

"Whatever made him act that way was an attempt to remove me and take the position, but God did not allow it," the governor asserted, framing the situation as a failed political coup. Abdussalam's exit occurred amidst impeachment moves by the state assembly, which were later withdrawn following his resignation, adding a layer of political intrigue to the incident.

Political Betrayal Within Kwankwasiyya Movement

Yusuf also raised concerns about the treatment of his former deputy within the Kwankwasiyya political movement, implying that Abdussalam had been sidelined despite his ambitions. "The deputy governor who left, hoping to secure that ticket... why not give him the ticket? Is that not a betrayal of him?" he questioned, highlighting internal conflicts and perceived injustices.

In response to criticism over his own political decisions, including his departure from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, the governor claimed that recent events have exposed what he described as "betrayers" within the political fold. "Kwankwasiyya members were not even informed before the decision to leave the NNPP was taken... so were they betrayed or not?" he said, pointing to a lack of transparency and communication within the movement.

Focus on Kano Residents and Future Plans

Governor Yusuf maintained that his actions were taken in the interest of Kano residents, aiming to avoid uncertainty. "We saw the direction the party was heading and offered advice, but it was ignored... we left because we did not want to put millions of Kano residents in uncertainty," he explained, emphasizing his commitment to stability and governance.

He further criticized what he described as the promotion of new political figures over long-standing members, questioning internal decisions within the movement. Despite these political tensions, Yusuf assured that his administration remains focused on its duties. He noted that credible individuals are already expressing interest in filling the vacant deputy governorship position, indicating a move towards continuity and resolution.

The governor's statements have sparked discussions about loyalty, ambition, and the dynamics of political alliances in Kano State, with implications for the broader political landscape in Nigeria.
