In a major move to accelerate development, the Kano State Executive Council has given the green light to a substantial financial package totalling N6,900,915,838.99 for a series of critical initiatives. The approval, granted on 5 January 2026, targets key sectors including infrastructure, environment, education, and youth empowerment, reflecting the state government's commitment to improving public welfare and stimulating economic growth.
Major Infrastructure and Environmental Upgrades
The bulk of the approved funds is directed at vital infrastructure. The Ministry of Works received the largest allocations for road and drainage projects crucial for connectivity and flood control. A significant N2.6 billion was approved for constructing the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
Furthermore, N1.2 billion was earmarked for a major 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and related structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road. To fix a critical failure, N896 million was allocated for reconstructing a multi-cell box culvert on the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road in Kiru LGA.
Addressing environmental concerns, the Council approved N358.4 million for the Ministry of Environment to build stormwater drainage and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal. This project aims to combat flooding and improve the urban environment.
Empowering Youth and Enhancing Public Services
Demonstrating a focus on human capital development, the state approved N431.6 million for the Steering Committee on the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes. This fund will cover a graduation ceremony and provide empowerment kits for beneficiaries, directly supporting youth skills development and entrepreneurship.
In the education sector, N285.1 million was approved as a revised cost for constructing storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state, a project to be executed by the Ministry of Education.
To improve access to clean water, N85.5 million was allocated to the Ministry of Water Resources for extending water pipelines within Greater Kano, specifically in Gwale Local Government Area.
Governance, Compensation, and Policy Reforms
The Council also addressed land compensation and governance integrity. A sum of N859.2 million was approved for the Ministry of Land to pay compensation to owners of structures affected by a five-kilometre dualised road project in Tudun Wada LGA.
To strengthen transparency, N157.6 million was approved for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to conduct an anti-corruption workshop for all State Directors (Batch 3).
On policy, the Executive Council approved the transmission of several important bills to the Kano State House of Assembly for passage into law. These include:
- The Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025
- The Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025
- The Kano State Education Bill 2025
- The Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025 (which seeks to rename the institution)
Additionally, the Council approved the implementation of the revised Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual for Kano State, a strategic move to attract more private sector investment.
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, stated that these approvals reaffirm its dedication to inclusive development, transparency, and improved service delivery for all residents.
