Kano Governor Yusuf Delivers on Promise with Aid for Families of Slain Hunters
In a significant gesture of support, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has fulfilled his commitment by providing cash and food assistance to the families of 16 hunters who were tragically lynched by a mob in Uromi, Edo State. This action underscores the governor's dedication to addressing the plight of those affected by the violent incident.
Government Delegation Distributes Aid in Bunkure Local Government Area
Led by Alhaji Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, a government delegation visited Bunkure Local Government Area on Friday to execute the governor's directive. During the visit, each of the families of the 16 deceased hunters received N300,000, while 13 survivors of the attack were given N200,000 each, along with essential food items to alleviate their hardship.
Waiya emphasized that the visit was initiated by Governor Yusuf to personally assess the condition of the affected families and to redeem earlier promises made to them. He explained that although the governor had pledged support during a previous visit, the assistance was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. The commissioner highlighted the governor's unwavering commitment to ensuring that compensation promised by the Edo State Government is also disbursed to the victims.
Additional Support and Educational Considerations
In his remarks, Waiya revealed that Governor Yusuf is actively considering further support, particularly focusing on the educational needs of the victims' children. This move aims to provide long-term stability and opportunities for the younger generation affected by the tragedy. "We are here today to redeem the pledge made by His Excellency," Waiya stated, noting that the governor only recently became aware that the initial promise had not been fulfilled, prompting immediate intervention.
He also provided an update on the compensation efforts from the Edo State Government, confirming that a dedicated bank account has been opened for the victims' families and that the payment process is currently underway. This collaborative approach between Kano and Edo states seeks to ensure comprehensive support for all those impacted by the lynching incident.
