The Lagos State House of Assembly has taken two significant steps aimed at strengthening governance and public accountability. Lawmakers have officially confirmed a key nominee from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and simultaneously introduced a formal charter to guide their service to the public.
Confirmation of STF Board of Trustees Chairman
On Wednesday, January 9, 2026, the Assembly gave its approval to Mr. Enitan Oshodi as the Chairman of the State Trust Fund (STF) Board of Trustees. His nomination was forwarded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and underwent a thorough screening process.
The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by an ad-hoc committee led by Honourable Fatai Mojeed. The committee conducted the screening in accordance with Sections 106 and 192 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. In its assessment, the committee reviewed Oshodi's credentials, his personal appearance before the lawmakers, and his overall performance during the questioning session.
"The committee found the nominee suitable and qualified for the role," Mojeed stated, noting that members of the Assembly had posed questions which Oshodi answered satisfactorily. The committee's recommendation for approval was unanimous.
Subsequently, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, directed the Clerk, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, to communicate the Assembly's resolution to the Governor's office.
Launch of the Service Delivery Charter
In a parallel development designed to redefine its relationship with citizens, the Assembly officially launched its Service Delivery Charter at the Assembly Complex. This document is being positioned as a social contract between the legislature and the people of Lagos.
Championed by Speaker Obasa, the charter marks a deliberate shift towards institutionalising transparency and accountability within the legislative arm of the state government. Officials described it as a roadmap that clearly outlines the rights of citizens and the corresponding responsibilities of Assembly staff.
A Binding Framework for Service
During the unveiling ceremony at the Lateef Jakande Auditorium, Clerk Olalekan Onafeko addressed an audience comprising lawmakers, civil servants, and other stakeholders. He emphasised that the charter is more than a procedural manual.
"Our unwavering commitment remains to deliver qualitative and efficient service to the good people of Lagos State through our legislative responsibilities," Onafeko declared. He further explained that the charter serves as a binding guide for all staff, regardless of rank, dictating "how, when, and what quality of service" must be delivered to every visitor and constituent.
Mrs. Uzezi Saka-Shenayon, the Head of the Service Delivery Unit, highlighted a key feature of the charter. She stated that it provides a clear framework which empowers the public to actively monitor and evaluate the performance of the Assembly, setting a new benchmark for parliamentary service.
The dual actions of confirming a crucial appointment and launching a transparency charter underscore the Lagos State House of Assembly's focused agenda on governance refinement and enhanced public engagement as it carries out its constitutional duties.
