Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially launched the emblem for the state's 50th-anniversary celebrations, declaring that remarkable progress has been achieved in the face of national economic and security headwinds.
Celebrating Milestones Amidst National Challenges
The governor made this declaration on Monday, December 15, 2025, during the unveiling ceremony of the official Oyo @50 logo held at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. He paid tribute to the numerous individuals and groups whose efforts have shaped the state since its creation.
Governor Makinde emphasised that his administration's approach has been to blend long-term and medium-term strategies to propel Oyo State forward. "Despite prevailing economic challenges, Oyo State will continue to record greater achievements in the coming years," he asserted confidently.
Infrastructure as a Cornerstone of Development
Highlighting a key infrastructural project, the governor announced that the first 32-kilometre phase of the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road is slated for commissioning by February of the coming year. This critical road links the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Technical University to Badeku Junction on the Ibadan-Ife Road.
In his address, the Chairman of the Oyo State @50 Committee, Hon. Saheed Fijabi, assured citizens that the golden jubilee events would be designed to be inclusive, reflective of the state's journey, and focused on the future. He praised Governor Makinde for his compassionate leadership and political wisdom, stating that the milestone celebrates more than just longevity—it honours leadership, legacy, and boundless potential.
Royal Blessings and Recognition
The event was graced by dignitaries including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, represented by Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; the Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Titiloye; Minister of the Federation, Chief Onikepo Akande; and Chief Bayo Oyero. They collectively commended the governor's developmental strides and pledged their ongoing support for his administration.
The ceremony's climax was the unveiling of the anniversary logo, followed by the symbolic release of 50 golden balloons. Governor Makinde also presented a cash reward of ₦1.5 million to the logo's designer, Sunday Ajayi.
Civil Service Conversion Examination Scheduled
In a related development, the Oyo State Government has announced that its 2025 conversion examination for junior civil service officers will take place on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, disclosed this in Ibadan, noting that over 250 junior officers are anticipated to participate. The examination will be conducted at the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre within the Secretariat complex in Ibadan.
The exercise is open to all eligible clerical and allied staff who have submitted proper applications for conversion. Eligible categories include:
- Clerical Assistants
- Clerical Officers
- Stores Attendants and Keepers
- Judiciary staff
- Other allied personnel across all state ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs)
The Oyo @50 celebration marks a significant half-century journey for the state, showcasing its evolution, the quality of its leadership, and its ambitious vision for the decades ahead.
