Makinde Vows to Strengthen Oyo Security, Commissions Police Area Command
Makinde: We'll Continue to Strengthen Oyo Security

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that his administration will persist in fortifying the state's security framework to protect residents and their investments. The governor made this pledge on Friday, December 5, 2025, during the official opening of the newly reconstructed Moniya Area Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force.

Infrastructure for a Growing Region

Represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, Governor Makinde emphasized that the establishment of the new police command in Moniya is a direct response to the area's rapid development. He highlighted that Akinyele Local Government is transforming into a major hub, attracting significant population growth due to flagship projects like the Circular Road, the Ilutuntun Business District, and the upcoming Dry Port.

"These projects have and will continue to attract more people to the council and that the government must expand its capacity to secure the people," the governor stated. He noted that robust security is essential for public safety and for creating a stable environment that encourages further investment in the area.

State Government's Proactive Support for Security

Governor Makinde detailed the extensive support his government provides to security agencies. He revealed that the Oyo State Government regularly meets operational needs, including the provision of vehicles. "If you see any car bearing the Nigeria Police Force logo, just know the state government donated it," he said.

He further explained that while the federal government manages arms and ammunition, state governments like Oyo are heavily involved in other critical areas like equipment and mobility. "We will continue to do this in Oyo State. This is because we are appreciative of what the Police Force is doing for us in terms of security," Makinde affirmed.

A Call for Community Vigilance

The governor also called for increased community cooperation, urging residents to report suspicious activities. "As a community, I want to urge us to say something when we see anything strange. In Oyo State, we have decided to really confront insecurity head-on," he charged.

He assured that the contract for the road in front of the new Area Command has been awarded and work has commenced. Makinde proudly claimed that Oyo State stands as the safest in South-West Nigeria, backing the assertion with available statistics and records.

Dignitaries Echo Security Commitment

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Honourable Akinwole Akinleye, stated that the new Area Command was built to reposition the police to secure borders and safeguard citizens amidst national insecurity. He commended Governor Makinde's leadership and assured residents of more democratic dividends.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, represented by Deputy Commissioner Isiaka Salahudeen, urged citizens to partner with security agencies by providing timely information. He described securing the state as a collective responsibility and promised that the police are ready to collaborate with other agencies to support the government's progress.

Other dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Honourable Segun Olayiwola, and an elder statesman, Engineer Julius Akinsola, praised the governor's security initiatives. They charged the police and community to maintain the new facility to help reduce insecurity.

The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe, traditional leaders, and other top government officials.
