In a decisive response to the worsening security crisis across northern Nigeria, the region's 19 state governors have announced an emergency high-level security meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 29, 2025.
The crucial gathering will take place in Kaduna and will feature the active participation of prominent traditional rulers from across the northern states, recognizing their vital role in grassroots security intelligence.
Unified Approach to Regional Security Challenges
Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Nasarawa State Governor, confirmed the development, emphasizing that the meeting aims to develop a comprehensive and unified strategy to tackle the surge in violent attacks, killings, and abductions plaguing the region.
According to Ahemba, the involvement of traditional leaders is particularly significant given their deep-rooted influence within local communities and their capacity to enhance intelligence gathering and community engagement efforts.
Traditional Rulers as Key Security Stakeholders
The meeting will bring together prominent traditional rulers from across the North, Ahemba stated, highlighting that these leaders are critical stakeholders in maintaining peace and stability in their respective domains.
The inclusion of traditional institutions reflects a growing recognition that effective security management requires collaboration between political leadership, security agencies, and community structures.
Decisive Actions Expected Amid Escalating Violence
Ahemba assured northern residents that the governors are prepared to take strong, coordinated decisions as insecurity continues to worsen in several northern states. The Nasarawa State government has already taken proactive measures by organizing an emergency security meeting where decisive decisions will be made to prevent any breach of security in the state.
He stressed that safeguarding the region demands a joint, well-coordinated effort from all stakeholders, including political leadership, security agencies, and the general public.
The official emphasized that security agencies cannot operate effectively without community support, urging residents across northern states to remain vigilant and provide timely information to authorities about suspicious activities and individuals with criminal tendencies.
The security summit comes amid growing public concern over the persistent violence in northern Nigeria, with many citizens hoping the coordinated approach will yield tangible results in restoring peace and security to the affected regions.
