NUJ President Lauds Adamawa's Infrastructure Boom, Plans Media Tour
NUJ Chief Impressed by Adamawa's Development Projects

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, has expressed strong admiration for the significant infrastructural transformation underway in Adamawa State. He described the scale and quality of ongoing projects as highly impressive during a regional meeting held in Yola over the weekend.

Zonal Meeting and Project Inspection Tour

The commendation came during a two-day North-East zonal meeting of the NUJ in Yola, which took place on Saturday, 6 December 2025. The gathering brought together national officials and union leaders from the six states in the zone: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. Also present was the union's National Vice President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde. The meeting's agenda focused on the critical roles and safety of journalists in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.

Following the deliberations, the NUJ leadership, accompanied by state officials, embarked on an extensive inspection tour of key project sites across the state capital. The tour provided firsthand insight into the development efforts of the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Showcasing Transformative Infrastructure

The delegation first visited the ongoing construction of the state shopping complex, where the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr Ishaya Dabari, detailed the project's economic potential and high structural standards.

At the Ministry of Works and Energy Development, the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Mohammed Suleiman, presented a comprehensive overview of major road works. He highlighted completed projects including flyovers, underpasses, and the expansion of Galadima Aminu Way, all aimed at easing traffic, improving safety, and reducing travel time and accidents. He also revealed plans for pedestrian flyovers in strategic locations.

A standout project inspected was the 7.5-kilometre stormwater drainage near the Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School. Engr. Suleiman explained that this facility has successfully mitigated flooding by channeling large volumes of water from the Saminaka community and other low-income areas, a development the NUJ President specifically noted as commendable grassroots intervention.

The Adamawa Super Highway and Federal Interventions

Engineer Suleiman further emphasised the transformative potential of the flagship 20.8-kilometre Adamawa Super Highway. This major artery links the A.A. Lawal Junction Flyover in Jimeta and features a half-cloverleaf interchange along the Numan–Yola Federal Highway. According to him, this project is a catalyst for accelerated urban expansion and economic growth.

The presentation also covered extensive interventions on federal roads across the state's 21 local government areas. Notable among these are the construction of five major bridges along the Mubi–Michika–Madagali corridor, one being a substantial 13-span bridge, and the awarding of the 24.1-kilometre Federal Way from Mubi to Maiha.

Call for National Media Spotlight

Deeply impressed by the scope of development witnessed, NUJ President Alhassan Yahaya declared that the progress warrants a broader national spotlight. He announced plans to organize a return visit to Adamawa with a delegation of journalists from the southern and eastern parts of Nigeria. This initiative aims to provide a nationwide platform for showcasing the state's achievements under Governor Fintiri's leadership.

The visiting NUJ delegation included zonal officials, as well as state council chairmen and secretaries from across the North-East region, underscoring the collective interest in the developmental strides being recorded in Adamawa State.
