Ogun State Renames Key Highway After President Tinubu, Unveils Major Governance and Infrastructure Plans

The Ogun State Executive Council has officially approved the renaming of the Sagamu–Iperu–Sapade Expressway to the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway, honoring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and contributions. This decision builds upon an earlier announcement made during the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport and other significant projects last Saturday, where the Artery Bypass was also renamed.

Infrastructure and Power Supply Enhancements

In a move to bolster the state's infrastructure, the Council has sanctioned the procurement of 50 electricity transformers under the Light Up Ogun Project. This initiative aims to significantly improve power supply across Ogun State, addressing long-standing energy challenges and supporting economic growth.

Additionally, to enhance administrative efficiency, the Council approved the purchase of 20 Suzuki Grand Vitara and 12 Toyota Fortuner vehicles. These vehicles are intended to support the operations of public officials, ensuring smoother governance and service delivery.

Traditional Leadership Appointments and Community Recognition

The Council also focused on strengthening local governance through traditional leadership appointments. Key decisions include:

  • The declaration of the Olu of Odeda stool in Odeda Local Government Area.
  • The ratification of Prince Adeyemi Ibikunle Opeaye as the Oludotun of Idotun in Ikenne Local Government Area.
  • The appointment of Chief Yaya Oriyomi as the Olu of Mowe.
  • The recognition of Bashorun Peter Oluwole Ogunbayo as the Odemo of Ishara.

In a related development, the former Aviation Village in Iperu has been renamed after the late Oba Adeleke Idowu Basibo, acknowledging his substantial contributions to the community.

Reflecting a Broader Governance Strategy

These approvals underscore the Ogun State government's ongoing commitment to infrastructure development, enhanced local governance, and community leadership. By renaming key assets after notable figures and investing in power and administrative resources, the state aims to foster a more robust and responsive governance structure.

The decisions are part of a broader strategy to honor legacy, improve public services, and strengthen traditional institutions, aligning with the state's goals for sustainable development and effective administration.
