Gov Lawal Orders Total Renovation of Dansadau PHC in Zamfara
Zamfara Governor Orders Renovation of Dansadau PHC

In a significant move to improve public health services, the Zamfara State Government has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of a key primary healthcare facility. Governor Dauda Lawal has directed the total renovation, expansion, and equipping of the Dansadau Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) located in Maru Local Government Area.

Governor's On-the-Spot Assessment Leads to Directive

The directive was issued on Wednesday, 18 December 2025, following an inspection visit by Governor Lawal to the facility. During the visit, the governor personally assessed the condition of the PHC and interacted with health workers on the ground. He emphasized that his administration is firmly committed to prioritizing public health and improving access to quality healthcare, particularly for communities at the grassroots level.

Governor Lawal stated that the planned renovation and expansion of the Dansadau PHC are designed to significantly enhance service delivery. This initiative aims to ensure that residents of Dansadau and surrounding communities receive better and more reliable healthcare services. A critical component of the upgrade will be the provision of comprehensive WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities at the centre.

Commitment to Inclusive Governance and Health Revitalization

Highlighting his administration's approach to inclusive governance, Governor Lawal also paid a courtesy visit to the Dansadau Emirate Council during his trip. This engagement underscores the government's focus on community involvement in its development agenda.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, who was present, commended the governor for his dedication to public health. She described the directive as a clear demonstration of the state government's unwavering commitment to revitalizing healthcare infrastructure across Zamfara. The visit and the subsequent order for the full renovation reflect the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare facilities and ultimately improve health outcomes for all citizens.

Part of a Broader 10-Year Development Vision

This healthcare intervention aligns with a larger, strategic plan for the state's future. Just a few days prior, on Friday, Governor Lawal officially launched a 10-year Zamfara State Development Plan covering 2025 to 2034.

The plan, unveiled at the JB Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau, is described as a long-term, evidence-based roadmap crafted to reflect the people's aspirations. The state government engaged KPMG Advisory as the lead consultant to develop the plan. KPMG collaborated closely with the Zamfara Executive Council and all stakeholders, including traditional rulers and religious leaders, over an eight-month period.

Governor Lawal stressed that this is the first comprehensive long-term plan in the state's recent history. It is built on robust data, wide stakeholder engagement, and alignment with national and global frameworks like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The plan rests on six core pillars:

  • Economy
  • Infrastructure
  • Social Welfare
  • Human Capital
  • Governance
  • Environmental Sustainability

The governor noted that the plan aims to maximize Zamfara's strengths in agriculture and natural resources through strategic partnerships, including agreements with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MoFI) and funding from the African Development Bank. The renovation of the Dansadau PHC is a tangible step towards achieving the social welfare and human capital objectives outlined in this broader vision for a transformed Zamfara State.
