FG, CREDICORP Empower 10,000 Women with Mobility Assets

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), has officially inaugurated a major empowerment initiative named the 10,000 Women in Mobility programme.

Nationwide Rollout of Mobility Assets

This ambitious scheme is designed to provide tangible support to 10,000 women entrepreneurs across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The core of the programme involves granting beneficiaries access to essential mobility assets, including vehicles, tricycles (popularly known as Keke), and motorcycles.

The goal is to directly boost women's involvement and ownership in key sectors such as transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility-related ventures. The programme was formally launched in Abuja on December 16, 2025.

Minister Highlights Economic and Gender Inclusion Goals

At the launch event, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, expressed strong enthusiasm for the project. She stated that the initiative is a strategic move to strengthen women's economic participation and foster financial independence.

Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim revealed that a pilot phase in Abuja has already successfully empowered 1,000 women with these assets. She praised the Managing Director of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, for his dedication to creating inclusive economic opportunities that translate government policy into real-world benefits.

"It's an economic empowerment," the Minister emphasized. "It's how much they drive it and how many hours they put into it... We have all come together across sectors to ensure that we activate economic spaces and also carry women along." She directly linked the programme to President Bola Tinubu's broader vision of building a $1 trillion economy, noting that women, who constitute over 50% of the population, are crucial to this national objective.

Broad Support from Government and Stakeholders

The initiative has garnered commendation from various government officials and stakeholder groups. In separate goodwill messages:

  • Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, highlighted that the programme aligns with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, making professions in transport accessible to all.
  • Oluwemimo Osanipin, Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), supported the move.
  • Princess Edna Azura, National President of the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), also commended the timely intervention.

These leaders collectively noted that the programme promotes decent work, industrial growth, and gender inclusion. They urged the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity responsibly to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria's economic development.

The 10,000 Women in Mobility programme stands as a significant step by the Federal Government and CREDICORP to dismantle structural barriers and actively integrate women into the mainstream of Nigeria's economic mobility landscape.
