First Lady Remi Tinubu Urges Women to Mentor Girls, Stresses Inner Beauty Over Nudity
Remi Tinubu: Teach Girls Modesty, Inner Beauty Not Nudity

First Lady Remi Tinubu Delivers Strong Message on Mentorship and Modesty

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has issued a heartfelt appeal to women across the nation, urging them to actively mentor young girls and instill values that prioritize modesty, strong character, and holistic personal development. Her remarks were delivered during a significant interfaith gathering in the capital.

Call to Action at Interfaith Iftar and Lent Gathering

Speaking at an interfaith Iftar and Lent breaking of fast event she hosted for Muslim and Christian women in Abuja on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Tinubu made a direct challenge. She called on women to make a deliberate and conscious investment in the lives of girls, particularly those from indigenous communities and disadvantaged backgrounds who may lack guidance and opportunities.

"I challenge you to have a mentee," the First Lady stated emphatically to the assembled women. "Pour into the life of a young girl from an indigenous background. Help them even if it is to give them a scholarship, encourage them." Her message, captured in a video shared on social media platform X on Friday, March 6, highlighted the practical steps women can take, from financial support through scholarships to providing essential moral and educational guidance.

Defining True Beauty and Promoting Virtue

Central to Tinubu's address was a clear discourse on values and self-image. She advised women to teach young girls the virtues that will fundamentally shape their conduct and how they perceive themselves.

"Teach them good virtue, how to be good women, how to dress well. Teach them how to cover up," she added, expressing visible concern over contemporary trends she characterized as immodest dressing. The First Lady was unequivocal in her definition of beauty, stressing that it should be rooted in internal qualities rather than physical exposure.

"Being naked is not beauty. We don't know why they're doing that, but beauty comes from within," Tinubu asserted, redirecting the focus from outward appearance to inner character and integrity.

A Shared Responsibility for Moral Upholding

While directing her primary call to action towards women, Oluremi Tinubu also acknowledged that men have a crucial role to play in fostering a society with strong moral values. She included a pointed remark aimed at encouraging male responsibility in this collective effort.

"Our men, God will also help them and crucify their eyes," she noted, suggesting that personal discipline and respect are required from all members of society to support the values she championed.

The event served as a significant platform for the First Lady to merge spiritual reflection with social advocacy, using the occasion of religious observance to call for tangible, community-driven support for the next generation of Nigerian women.
