The Ekiti Council of Elders is set to induct eight young citizens as affiliate members on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in a move aimed at revitalizing and strengthening the council's activities. The announcement was made in a statement by the council's President, Prof. Joseph Oluwasanmi.
Background of the Council
The council, which exclusively comprises Ekiti indigenes aged 60 years and above, has traditionally served as a paternal body, offering advice, admonition, and correction during critical moments for the Ekiti people. Committed to the development of Ekiti State, the council's members are a reservoir of expertise and assets across various fields, dedicated to giving back to their communities and state.
Inductees for Affiliate Membership
The eight young citizens to be inducted include notable figures such as the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, and Dr. (Mrs.) Margaret Fagboyo, a multi-disciplinary development expert. Others are Seyi Aiyeleso, CEO of Agbeyewa Farms; Dr. Temitope Abimbola Longe, an international consultant; Oladipupo Bamisaye, a construction engineer; Lawrence Olagoke Egunjobi, an award-winning entrepreneur; Oluwadola Rachel Abe, a seasoned lawyer; and Oluwakayode Jegede, an ace broadcaster.
Induction Venue and Purpose
The induction ceremony will take place at the Ekiti Council of Elders’ Resort, near the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion on New Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti. The council explained that the affiliate initiative stems from a decision to modernize and broaden its activities for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Roles and Responsibilities of Affiliates
The affiliate members are expected to propose suggestions to help the elders improve service delivery by incorporating contemporary best practices. They will also establish strong links between the council and the Ekiti diaspora community, benefiting the state and its people. Additionally, they will recommend government interventions for enhanced performance and promote the vision and mission of the Elders' Council.
