Abiru Distributes Food to 10,000 Households for Eid-el-Kabir

Senator Tokunbo Abiru has distributed food packs to more than 10,000 households across Lagos East Senatorial District as part of activities marking this year's Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. The intervention, carried out across Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, and Somolu divisions, saw thousands of residents receive staple food items, including rice and garri, at designated distribution centres set up across the district.

Timely Relief Amid Economic Hardship

The initiative was introduced to provide relief to households amid rising food prices and broader economic pressures affecting communities across the country. Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely support that helped ease the burden of the festive period.

Commitment to Constituents' Welfare

Speaking through his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, during the distribution exercise at the Ikorodu Constituency Office, Abiru said the initiative reflects his continued commitment to the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of constituents. He explained that Eid-el-Kabir represents values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity, adding that it was important to extend support to families during a period marked by economic hardship.

Part of Broader Social Intervention Efforts

Abiru noted that the food distribution programme forms part of wider social intervention efforts aimed at cushioning the impact of economic challenges on vulnerable residents and improving living conditions across Lagos East. He also expressed support for ongoing efforts by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stating that addressing food security requires collaboration across all levels of leadership.

He said: "This intervention is borne out of our sincere commitment to continuously identify with the people and provide practical support, particularly at a time many households are facing economic difficulties. Eid-el-Kabir is a season that symbolises sacrifice, compassion, generosity, and unity, and it is important that we extend love and support to one another."

Additional Support for Community Leaders

Beyond household distributions, the senator also provided rams and cows to Imams, community leaders, political stakeholders, and other groups across the district to support Eid celebrations.
