Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with local hunters, rescued a kidnap victim during a security operation along the Benue–Nasarawa border on July 17, 2026. The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a post on X.
Rescue operation details
The rescue operation was carried out at about 7:31 a.m. on July 17 by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Torkula. The victim was rescued at Ornan, a border community between Benue and Nasarawa states, following sustained pressure mounted by the security team on suspected kidnappers operating in the area.
Medical attention and ongoing operations
“The rescued victim was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for assessment and treatment,” the post read. “Troops have continued to intensify clearance operations and dominate vulnerable communities across the Benue–Nasarawa border to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and ensure the safety of residents.”
