A 13-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital after surviving a horrific gang rape by armed bandits in Niger State. The brutal attack has exposed the continuing vulnerability of rural communities to criminal elements.
Market Journey Turns into Nightmare
Hasiya A. Bawa, a young girl from Kudodo village in Golkogo ward, was returning from the market with her elder brother, Rabiu A Bawa, when their lives changed forever. Three bandits ambushed the siblings in the Lakpma axis of Shiroro Local Government Area.
The attackers seized the opportunity to assault the young girl while her brother watched helplessly. The traumatic incident occurred on Thursday, November 27, 2025, according to confirmation from journalist Bakatsine.
Alarming Security Situation in Lakpma Axis
Bakatsine expressed deep concern about the deteriorating security situation in the region. "The renewed activities of banditry in Lakpma axis is seriously alarming. How long will communities remain this vulnerable?" he questioned.
The journalist's frustration reflects the growing desperation among residents who face daily threats from criminal gangs operating with impunity in rural Niger State.
Pattern of Violence Continues Unabated
This horrific sexual assault follows closely on the heels of another major security incident in the same local government area. Bandits had previously launched a deadly attack in Palaita community, Erena Ward, where they abducted 24 people.
Among those taken captive were pregnant women, highlighting the particular vulnerability of women and children in the ongoing security crisis. The consecutive attacks demonstrate the boldness and frequency of bandit operations in Shiroro LGA.
The hospitalization of young Hasiya serves as a painful reminder of the human cost of insecurity in northern Nigeria. Communities continue to live in fear as bandits expand their operations and intensify their brutality against civilians.
