Bandits Launch Nighttime Raid in Kaduna, Abducting Ten Residents

In a brazen late-night assault, armed bandits have kidnapped ten individuals in Kaduna State, including seven members of a single family, escalating security tensions in the region. The attack occurred on Thursday, April 3, 2026, around 9:32 p.m. in the Unguwar Sabon-Titi community along the Katari–Hayin Dam axis within Kachia Local Government Area.

Details of the Kidnapping Incident

According to reports from residents and verified by Vanguard, the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, first targeted a residential compound, abducting seven family members identified as Jummai Amos, Barnabas Amos, Iko Amos, Baby Amos, Eunice Amos, Eshiwan Amos, and Godwin Amos. The assailants then proceeded to a neighboring house, where they kidnapped three additional victims: Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa, and Alfred Iriyo.

Witnesses described a terrifying scene as the bandits surrounded the homes in large numbers before forcibly entering. Initially, the gunmen refrained from firing shots, possibly to avoid alerting nearby security personnel, including a District Police Officer whose residence is close to the incident site. However, they began shooting sporadically as they fled the community with their captives.

Community Response and Security Concerns

In the aftermath, residents have been visiting the affected families to offer sympathy and support. A community leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed deep frustration over the inability to reach security operatives during the attack. "The moment I received the distress call, I tried contacting security personnel, but their lines were not connecting," he lamented, highlighting ongoing communication and response challenges.

This incident adds to a series of recent bandit activities in Kaduna State. Recall that suspected bandits previously attacked a wedding in Kahir, resulting in 13 deaths and multiple abductions. In a separate event in Kebbi State, armed bandits killed businessman Sufiyanu Garba and kidnapped his pregnant wife, prompting police investigations.

Police and Official Reactions

While police have confirmed the abductions in Unguwar Sabon-Titi, officials have visited the victims' families, promising a comprehensive report once details are fully verified. The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mohammed Hadejia, has ordered thorough inquiries into related incidents to rescue victims and apprehend attackers, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the area.

As tensions rise, this attack underscores the persistent threat of banditry in northern Nigeria, calling for more effective strategies to protect vulnerable communities and ensure timely emergency responses.
