Bandits Invade Kwara Community, Kill 10 Residents in Deadly Night Attack

Kaiama, Kwara State - A devastating terrorist attack has left at least ten people dead in Woro Community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The assault occurred on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, with eyewitnesses describing scenes of horror as bandits opened fire indiscriminately and set homes ablaze.

Terrifying Eyewitness Accounts of the Assault

Residents who survived the attack recounted harrowing experiences to journalists. "They killed many people and seized some residents. They even burn houses again," one eyewitness stated, highlighting the brutality of the assault. Another survivor described the chaos: "It was a terrifying experience. They came in shooting and burnt everything. We had to run for our lives."

Photographic evidence obtained from the scene shows multiple houses engulfed in flames and victims, including children, lying on the ground. The attack has forced numerous residents to flee their homes, with many seeking refuge in nearby communities as fear grips the area.

Community Leader Accuses Government of Neglect

In a revealing development, a local government chairman has accused successive Kwara State administrations of ignoring the bandit presence in the region for over fifteen years. Femi Yusuf, Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, disclosed during a Yoruba-language radio program that these terrorists have established organized systems within the state's forests.

"Those bandits do not just arrive in our forests, they have been living inside the forest for more than 15 years," Yusuf stated. "They have already established a system inside our forest and have been living there."

The council chairman emphasized that the forest spans vast territory, requiring three hours to traverse by motorcycle, and that various economic activities have been ongoing there for years, indicating authorities were aware of the area.

Police Yet to Respond as Security Concerns Mount

As of the time of reporting, the Kwara State Police Command has not released any official statement regarding the Woro Community attack. Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi has not responded to messages seeking comment on the incident.

This latest attack follows previous security incidents in Kwara State, including:

  • Recent deadly assaults in Lade and surrounding communities in Patigi and Edu LGAs
  • The killing of three local vigilantes by armed bandits
  • Injuries to scores of security operatives during related incidents
  • The theft of over 100 cattle in coordinated attacks

The community leader who spoke anonymously expressed growing frustration: "These attacks are getting too frequent. When will our government step in and protect us?" This sentiment echoes throughout affected communities as residents question the effectiveness of security measures in the region.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's administration has previously stated it is responding to rising incidents of kidnapping and armed attacks, particularly along the Kwara-Niger axis. However, community members and local leaders continue to call for more decisive action against the bandit groups operating in the state's forested areas.
