Bandits Unleash Terror on Kaduna Wedding Celebration
In a horrific incident that has shocked the nation, armed bandits stormed a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on the night of Sunday, March 29, 2026. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of 13 individuals, with an unknown number of guests abducted by the assailants.
Details of the Deadly Assault
According to local resident Shehu Bala, who spoke to Daily Trust, the attack commenced around 11:47 pm. The gunmen, reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles, opened fire indiscriminately inside the wedding hall, creating chaos and panic among the celebrants. "In fact, there are two of my friends who were inside the hall that also sustained bullet injuries during the attack," Bala disclosed.
Many of the injured were promptly transported to Kagarko General Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Two victims with more severe injuries required transfer to medical facilities in Kaduna for advanced care. The community remains in a state of mourning and fear following the brutal assault.
Victims Identified and Community Impact
A community leader, speaking anonymously, confirmed the fatalities and provided names of some victims, including Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John, Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah, and Francis Unguwa Doya.
The bandits' rampage extended beyond the wedding venue. They reportedly looted local shops, stealing food items, provisions, and pharmaceutical products from a chemist. The terror lasted for nearly an hour before the attackers made their escape. "In fact, the entire people of the community were thrown into pandemonium because of the sporadic shooting by the bandits that Sunday night to the extent some people had to flee into the bush," the anonymous source recounted.
Official Response and Investigations
Police sources from the Kagarko division have confirmed the abduction aspect of the attack, though the precise number of kidnapped individuals remains undetermined. DSP Hassan Mansur, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, stated that a comprehensive report would be issued once all details are verified and confirmed.
In a show of solidarity and concern, Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and Senator Sani Musa visited the injured victims at Kagarko Hospital. Their presence aimed to offer support to the traumatized community and demonstrate governmental attention to the security crisis.
