Bandits kill 18 in fresh Plateau attack, youth leader confirms

At least 18 people have been killed and several others injured in a fresh attack by suspected bandits in Kawel village, Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026, according to Christopher Luka, the Bokkos Youth Leader, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.

Details of the Attack

Security analyst Zagazola Makama attributed the attack to “Fulani bandits.” The assault comes less than five days after the District Head of Gwande in the same Bokkos LGA, Saf Samuel Alaket, was killed in an ambush along the Sha District axis bordering Daffo community. The traditional ruler was returning home from a council meeting when he was ambushed.

Luka narrated that a colleague and fellow youth council member reported the Sunday night attack as it unfolded. “The youth leader called around 12 a.m. that gunmen attacked the community and shot over 20 people, so 18 were confirmed dead,” Luka said. He immediately reported the matter to security personnel stationed in Bokkos. “I called the security and they confirmed to me that they had been alerted and were on their way to the attacked community,” he added.
