Bandits Kill 21 Villagers in Zamfara Community Attack
In a devastating assault, bandits have killed over 21 villagers and abducted numerous others in a Zamfara State community, highlighting the persistent insecurity plaguing the region. The attack, which occurred on Friday evening around 9 pm, involved gunmen storming the village with more than 80 motorcycles, unleashing sporadic gunfire primarily targeting women, and looting livestock.
Details of the Attack
According to a resident who spoke anonymously via telephone interview, the assailants launched the violent incursion, leaving the community in chaos. The resident reported that villagers are still searching for missing persons, while funeral arrangements are underway for those killed. He urgently appealed to both the federal and Zamfara state governments to deploy additional security personnel to the area to restore peace and address the ongoing insecurity.
"I am calling on the authorities, particularly the federal government and Zamfara state government, to deploy more security personnel to our local government to address the lingering insecurity affecting us," the resident stated.
Police Response and Confirmation
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident but noted that the exact number of deaths remains unspecified. He assured that the police command has deployed adequate personnel to the area and that normalcy has been restored. DSP Abubakar emphasized the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to provide accurate information on bandit movements for prompt police response.
