Bandits Kill FRSC Officer in Katsina, Steal Motorcycle

Suspected armed bandits have killed an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State, in a violent attack that underscores the persistent security challenges in the region.

Details of the Fatal Attack

The victim, identified as Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki, was attacked and killed along the Funtua–Tafoki road on the evening of Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The incident occurred within the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Security analyst Bakatsine, who confirmed the tragic event on Wednesday, revealed a distressing detail: the assailants not only took the officer's life but also made away with his motorcycle. "Yesterday evening, a Road Safety officer, Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki, was killed by armed bandits in the Tafoki axis of Faskari LGA, Katsina State, along the Funtua–Tafoki road and they took his motorcycle," Bakatsine stated.

A Prominent Family and a Troubled Region

The deceased was not just an FRSC officer; he came from a prominent family in the area. Ibrahim was the younger brother of Rt. Hon. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, the Member of the House of Representatives representing the Kankara–Faskari–Sabuwa Federal Constituency. He was also a son of the Tafoki traditional leader, Alhaji Dalhatu Tafoki.

This attack is particularly poignant as it happened in a zone that has been the focus of attempts to broker peace. Bakatsine pointed out that the attack occurred within an area that has recently witnessed several peace and reconciliation efforts with bandits, initiatives aimed at restoring calm to the troubled communities.

A Call for Concrete Security Action

The killing has prompted urgent questions about the effectiveness of current security strategies. Bakatsine encapsulated the community's frustration and grief with a pointed question: "How many more lives must be lost before security truly returns to these communities?"

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the volatile security situation in parts of Northwest Nigeria, where attacks on both civilians and government officials continue despite ongoing dialogues and military operations. The theft of the motorcycle also highlights the economic motivations often intertwined with these violent acts.
