Deadly Raid on Rector's Residence in Zamfara
Bandits stormed the home of Dr. Aminu Yusuf, rector of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, in Zamfara State, killing his security guard and abducting multiple residents. The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, according to a local source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Dr. Yusuf narrowly escaped with his wife and daughter by climbing over the perimeter fence using a ladder. The source reported that the rector first helped his wife and daughter escape before climbing himself, during which he dislocated one of his legs. The security guard, identified as Isah Yankaba, was killed in the incident. The source added that he attended Yankaba's funeral prayer in his hometown, where he was buried according to Islamic rites.
Further Abductions and Attempted Attack
After the attack on the rector's residence, the gunmen moved to Hayin Baguso, an area near the Low-Cost Housing Estate bordering a stream. There, they abducted the wife and daughter of a resident identified only as Ibrahim. The bandits also attempted to break into the home of petroleum dealer Salisu Azaria, but fled when security personnel arrived at the scene.
Later, the assailants proceeded to the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda, where they abducted a university lecturer, Dr. Namadina Hamza. The motive for the attacks is believed to be ransom, though no official statement has been released by authorities as of press time.
