Eight Family Members Including Pregnant Woman Killed in Plateau Village Attack
A devastating late-night attack on Mbwelle village in the Forof Wur District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, has resulted in the tragic deaths of eight family members, including a pregnant woman. The assault, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, involved sustained gunfire lasting nearly an hour, leaving homes destroyed, families displaced, and numerous residents unaccounted for.
Victims Identified in the Brutal Assault
The victims have been identified as Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Lucky Titus Dakus, Habila Istifanu Dakus, Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Mrs. Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus, and Innocent Barnabas Makwin. In addition to these fatalities, at least three individuals sustained injuries during the violent incident. Search efforts are currently ongoing to locate those who remain missing in the aftermath of the attack.
Local Government Chairman Expresses Shock and Condolences
Samuel Amalau, the Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, expressed profound shock and heartfelt sadness over what he described as a senseless act of violence perpetrated by terrorists against innocent and law-abiding citizens. He stated, "I write with a deeply burdened heart to express my profound shock and heartfelt sadness over this senseless act of violence perpetrated by terrorists against innocent and law-abiding citizens."
Amalau characterized the killings as "a direct assault on our collective humanity and peaceful coexistence" while extending condolences to the affected families and wishing the injured a swift recovery. He urged residents not to lose faith in security agencies and emphasized the critical importance of stronger community collaboration.
Calls for Vigilance and Caution Against Retaliation
The chairman highlighted that "community vigilance has become more critical now than ever" and called on all residents to remain alert and proactive in safeguarding their neighborhoods. He also cautioned youths against retaliatory actions that could inflame tensions, stressing that the government is working closely with security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice.
"The government is working closely with security agencies to ensure that those behind these atrocities are identified and brought to justice. We remain resolute in restoring lasting peace across Bokkos," Amalau added.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that investigations into the attack are ongoing. Community leaders report that the incident has heightened anger and anxiety among residents, with some already calling for protests over perceived delays in security response during the assault.
