Emir Sanusi's Sympathy Visit to Troubled Faruruwa
In a significant show of solidarity, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, made a personal visit to the troubled Faruruwa community in Shanono local government area on Sunday, 16 November 2025. This visit came as a direct response to the increasing wave of bandit incursions plaguing the area, which borders Katsina State.
Monarch Calls for Expanded Community Vigilance
Speaking directly to affected residents, Emir Sanusi emphasized that overcoming the criminal invasion requires a united front. He called for expanded community vigilance and stronger support for security agencies operating in the region. The monarch stressed that the rising attacks demand greater attention and proactive measures from traditional institutions, the government, and local vigilante groups.
"For the past few months, we have had an increase in the spate of attacks in villages neighbouring Katsina State," Emir Sanusi stated. "Bandits are coming in for cattle rustling, killing innocent people, and kidnapping men and women."
Government Response and Security Measures
The Emir reassured the community of the government's commitment to their safety, highlighting concrete steps already taken. The state government has deployed personnel and provided significant logistics to strengthen security in the area.
"The governor has bought vehicles, provided resources, and the people can already see the movement of the army and the police in this area," he confirmed. The monarch also encouraged residents to actively use their local vigilantes to help protect their villages, framing it as a shared responsibility.
In a crucial message to neighbouring regions, Emir Sanusi urged Katsina communities to ensure that any peace agreements with bandits do not become a licence for criminals to attack Kano communities and then find safe refuge across the border.
The visit concluded with prayers for the restoration of peace and a pledge of continued collaboration with the state government. This high-level visit follows a recent military engagement in Shanono where troops neutralised 19 bandits, though tragically, two troops and a vigilante lost their lives in the confrontation.
