FG Pledges Enhanced Security in Zamfara Amid Governor's Political Shift

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to tackling the persistent security challenges in Zamfara State, a pledge made concurrently with Governor Dauda Lawal's official defection to the All Progressives Congress. Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered this assurance during a ceremony in Gusau on Tuesday, where he formally welcomed the governor into the ruling party.

Security Deployment and Political Support

Shettima emphasized that the government will deploy adequate security personnel and advanced equipment to combat the banditry that has long threatened lives and property across Zamfara. He congratulated Lawal on his move to the APC, assuring him of the Federal Government's full support and cooperation to foster development in the state.

The Vice President stated, "The federal government will do everything humanly possible to get rid of the marauding bandits who have been terrorising the people of the state. We will give necessary assistance and support to Governor Dauda Lawal to continue with the good work he has started."

Call for Electoral Support and Political Unity

In a related appeal, Shettima urged residents of Zamfara to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Lawal in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This call for political unity was echoed by Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who announced he would not contest the Zamfara governorship election in 2027, instead declaring his support for Lawal's second-term ambition.

The event highlights a strategic alignment between federal security efforts and local political dynamics, aiming to stabilize the region and bolster governance.
