A violent explosion suspected to be from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) left five individuals with serious injuries in Zamfara State on Thursday.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred on Thursday, January 15, at approximately 11:30 a.m. along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima Road, located within the Bukkuyum Local Government Area. According to reports, the victims were all passengers on a single motorcycle when it ran over the explosive device.

Security analysts believe the IED was planted by armed bandits operating in the region, likely intended for security patrols. The device detonated immediately upon contact, producing a loud blast that completely destroyed the motorcycle and wounded all five occupants.

Security Response and Aftermath

Following the explosion, security operatives swiftly moved to the scene. They cordoned off the road and issued warnings to residents to avoid the area to allow for comprehensive safety checks and clearance operations.

The injured victims were promptly evacuated to receive medical care at the General Hospital in Gummi. Movement along the affected Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima axis remains restricted as security agencies continue to monitor the situation and sweep the area for any further threats.
