Six persons have been confirmed dead and five others injured following a fresh bandit attack on Lajinge community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State on Wednesday, July 8. Residents reported that the attackers stormed the community at about 12:00 midnight and operated until around 2:20 a.m., shooting sporadically and causing panic among villagers.
Details of the Attack
A resident of the community, who spoke anonymously to Daily Trust, said, “They came in large numbers on motorcycles and started shooting indiscriminately. They killed six people, including a married woman, and injured five others. They did not abduct anyone during the attack. They only rustled our livestock. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.”
Victims Identified
The victims killed in the attack were identified as Alhaji Dankane S/Ruwa, Samaila Isah Udu, Adare Dansisi Makeri, Danlami Abdulrahama, Maryam Dankane, and Hamisu Adamu. Those injured were identified as Lawali Danjaji, Sani Ibrahim, Garba Adare Garbobo, Iliya Muntari, and Adamu Yarkyeya.
Burial and Aftermath
The deceased victims have since been buried according to Islamic rites. The attack has heightened security concerns in the area, with residents calling for increased protection from security agencies.
