Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has taken decisive steps to confront a rising security threat following violent attacks on border communities. The governor's actions aim to restore peace and protect the lives and property of residents in areas recently infiltrated by bandits.
Governor's On-the-Spot Assessment and Pledges
In response to attacks that originated from neighbouring Katsina State, Governor Yusuf personally visited the affected areas on December 17, 2025. He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation including the state's service chiefs, the Army, Air Force, Navy, the Police Commissioner, and the Director of the State Security Service.
The governor toured Yankamaye in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, as well as Faruruwa and Tsaure in Shanono Local Government Area. His mission was threefold: to assess the damage firsthand, boost the morale of security personnel stationed there, and offer condolences to families who lost loved ones or were displaced by the violence.
"We are aware that innocent communities, especially in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas, have been attacked. Innocent lives were lost and people displaced," Governor Yusuf stated, visibly moved by the situation. He assured troops of the government's full backing, emphasizing that this level of insecurity was new to Kano State.
Concrete Security Measures Unveiled
Beyond moral support, the Kano State Government announced a robust, multi-pronged strategy to combat the bandit threat. The plan focuses on enhancing both manpower and hardware for security operations.
The government pledged immediate assistance to the Joint Task Force (JTF), which includes:
- The provision of additional weapons and military hardware.
- The deployment of more troops to the vulnerable border zones.
- The procurement of surveillance drones for improved monitoring.
- The donation of 10 patrol vehicles (Hilux vans) and 50 motorcycles to strengthen ground patrols and surveillance capabilities.
Furthermore, a physical barrier project has begun. The state has commenced the excavation of trenches along border communities to physically curb and deter the infiltration of armed groups from neighbouring states.
Community Collaboration and Spiritual Support
Governor Yusuf stressed that technology and troops alone cannot guarantee safety. He called for a united front, urging residents of Kano and neighbouring Katsina communities to actively support security efforts through vital intelligence sharing.
In a unique move blending governance with tradition, the administration also sought divine intervention for peace. The state organized a one-day prayer session involving thousands of Islamic clerics. During the session, a remarkable 4,444 complete recitations of the Holy Qur'an were made, seeking God's protection and the return of lasting security to the state.
The governor's comprehensive response—combining frontline visits, tactical military support, community engagement, and spiritual advocacy—demonstrates a determined effort to contain the crisis and reassure a frightened populace.
