Two Sokoto Kidnap Victims Deliver Babies While Held Captive by Bandits

In a distressing development from Sokoto State, two pregnant women who were kidnapped by bandits have delivered babies while in captivity. The women gave birth to a baby boy and a baby girl respectively during their ordeal, highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.

Details of the Abduction and Attack

The victims were abducted alongside six other members of the same family from Takatsaba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area approximately seven weeks ago. According to a relative of the victims who spoke on condition of anonymity, the abductees comprised five women and three men from a single household.

The bandits stormed the village, kidnapped these individuals, and killed an elderly man during the attack. This tragic incident has left some of the children orphaned, compounding the community's grief and trauma.

Ransom Demands and Escape Efforts

The relative revealed that the family has been struggling to raise the ransom demanded by the bandits. Although over eight million naira has been paid, they have not been able to meet the ten million naira demanded by the captors.

In a glimmer of hope, three of the victims, including a nursing mother, have managed to escape and are now in Zurmi town in Zamfara State. They are currently receiving medical attention at a health facility in Sabon Birni. However, three young men and two women remain in captivity, with their safety and well-being a major concern.

Call for Enhanced Security Measures

The relative urgently called on security agencies and the government to strengthen security in the area. "We need brave security personnel deployed to our communities," he emphasized, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by bandits in Sokoto and neighboring regions.

This incident underscores the escalating security challenges in northern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common, affecting vulnerable populations including women and children.
