Suspected bandits have abducted two chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, Abba Anas Adamu and Ali Tukur Gantsa. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Rijana, a notorious flashpoint for kidnapping along the Kaduna–Abuja highway.
Details of the Abduction
According to sources, the duo were traveling to Abuja for a party meeting when they were intercepted by the abductors. Concerns arose after they failed to arrive at the venue as scheduled. Efforts to reach them via Ali Gantsa’s phone yielded disturbing responses.
A party stakeholder, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Gantsa initially answered the call in a subdued voice before one of the suspected abductors took over the conversation. “They are with us. We kidnapped them,” the caller reportedly replied before switching off the phone.
Ransom Demand
The source further revealed that the kidnappers have contacted associates of the victims and are demanding a ransom of N200 million for their release. As of the time of filing this report, neither the ADC nor security agencies have issued any official statement on the matter.
The abduction highlights the persistent security challenges along the Kaduna–Abuja highway, a corridor frequently targeted by criminal gangs. The victims, prominent figures in the Jigawa ADC chapter, were en route to a strategic party meeting, raising concerns about the safety of political leaders in the region.
