The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to the abduction of three brothers in Yola North Local Government Area. This was disclosed by the command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Arrest of suspect
According to Nguroje, the suspect, identified as Alhaji Adamu Yahaya, was taken into custody following an intelligence-driven operation by the command. The arrest came after a report was filed at the State Intelligence Department (SID) on June 16 by one Samaila Musa, who stated that three of his sons had been kidnapped.
The complainant reported that the kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ransom for the release of the victims. The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is currently providing useful information to aid in the arrest of other members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Details of the incident
The statement read: "The Adamawa State Police Command has succeeded in arresting one Alhaji Adamu Yahaya, male, of Hosere Jambutu, Yola North Local Government Area, in connection with the kidnapping of three persons in Yola North LGA of Adamawa State."
It continued: "On June 16th, 2026, one Samaila Musa, male, of Hullere Gwalamba, Yola North LGA, reported at the State Intelligence Department (SID) that on 12th June, 2026, three of his sons, namely: Adamu Samaila Sultan, aged 24 years, Bilal Abdurrahman, aged 8 years, and Ya'u Sani Baba Iyali, aged 10 years, were kidnapped and whisked away to an unknown destination."
The complainant further reported that the kidnappers later established contact with the family and demanded a ransom as a condition for the release of the victims. Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed operatives to commence a discreet investigation and deploy intelligence and technical assets. This swift action led to the arrest of the suspect.
Investigation ongoing
The police statement added: "During the investigation, the suspect was arrested and is currently providing useful information that will assist in the arrest of other members of the kidnapping syndicate. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation. More details will be provided soon."
Meanwhile, a graphic video circulating online suggests that the victims, including the two minors, have been killed by their abductors. However, SP Nguroje has yet to confirm this development.
