The Kwara State Police Command has successfully dismantled a suspected bandit logistics network and apprehended a key suspect in Ilorin, the state capital. This development was announced by the command's spokesperson, SP Adetoun-Adeyemi, in a statement released on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The arrest was the result of credible intelligence and sustained surveillance operations.
Breakthrough in Intelligence-Led Policing
According to the statement, the operation aligns with the strategic policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasizes intelligence-led crime fighting and the dismantling of criminal networks. The Kwara State Police Command achieved this significant breakthrough through the efforts of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
Acting on credible intelligence and covert surveillance, operatives of the VCRU apprehended a suspect in Ilorin whose activities are strongly linked to the movement and supply of materials intended for criminal elements operating in forested enclaves and remote areas across the state.
Recovered Items and Preliminary Findings
Items recovered during the investigation include a large quantity of assorted cigarette brands and other rations, which are believed to be part of a logistics chain supporting criminal groups. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect plays a strategic support role within a broader network responsible for providing sustenance and other forms of assistance to bandits and allied criminal elements.
Further examination of the suspect's mobile device revealed photographs showing him dressed in military camouflage and seated on a Bajaj motorcycle. This evidence has strengthened intelligence leads regarding his suspected association with criminal elements.
Ongoing Operations and Commitment to Security
The police are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other collaborators connected to the network. The Commissioner of Police for Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, reassured residents that ongoing security operations across the state are increasingly focused on targeting not only armed criminals but also the logistical structures, collaborators, informants, and suppliers that sustain their activities.
The command remains resolute in denying criminal groups the resources, freedom of movement, and support networks required to operate, while sustaining pressure on all persons involved in aiding criminality in any form.
